   Currently a Pima County Superior Court Commissioner, Ms Nygaard is an experienced trial lawyer and a former shareholder in the law firm of DeConcini McDonald Yetwin & Lacy, P.C. Her practice area was civil litigation, representing individuals, corporations and governmental agencies in the areas of employment, civil rights, personnel issues, contract disputes and appeals. She also has extensive experience in personal injury, medical malpractice and insurance litigation.

    Prior to joining DeConcini McDonald Brammer Yetwin & Lacy, P.C. in 1986, Ms Nygaard served as a trial deputy with the Pima County Attorney's Office and was an associate with the law firm of O'Connor, Cavanaugh, Anderson, Westover, Killingsworth & Beshears. She also served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable James D. Hathaway, Arizona Court of Appeals. Before entering the legal profession, Ms Nygaard taught mathematics in the Tucson Unified School District and served for two years as a guidance counselor.

    Ms. Nygaard received her education at the University of Arizona--obtaining her B.S. in Mathematics with Distinction in 1972, a Masters of Education in Counseling and Guidance in 1986, and a J.D. with Distinction from the College of Law in 1982. She is a member of the State Bars of Arizona and Colorado, the American Board of Trial Advocates, the State Bar of Arizona Trial Practice Sections, the Arizona Women Lawyers' Association, the American Bar Association, the Arizona Judges Association and the Association of Family & Conciliation Courts. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Pima County Bar Association and is past President; and she is former Chair of the Trial Practice Section of the State Bar of Arizona. Ms Nygaard is a officer and director of Child & Family Resources, Inc. and its current President, a former member of the Pima County Affirmative Action Technical Advisory Committee, and a current member and past Co-Chair of the Pima County Bar Association Continuing Legal Education Committee. She is also a member of the Morris K. Udall Inn of the Court, has served as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Pima County Superior Courts since 1993 and was certified as an Arbitrator in the United States District Court for the District of Arizona
