   Judge Michael Miller was appointed to the Pima County Superior Court by Gov. Jane Dee Hull in June 2002. Judge Miller was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1952. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1973 and began working at the Livingston County Juvenile Court as the court psychologist. While working at the court, Judge Miller began doctoral studies at the University of Michigan, which he completed in 1980. He was an N.I.M.H. post-doctoral Fellow in Forensic Psychology at Florida State, where he worked in federal and state prisons.

   Judge Miller attended the University of Arizona Law College to participate in the new law-psychology program. After clerking for the Hon. Robert Corcoran, he joined Lewis and Roca. He was in private practice for 17 years, principally in areas of product liability, commercial, and administrative health care law. Although he was licensed as a psychologist, his clinical career ended when he began law school.

    Judge Miller is the author of numerous articles on trial practice, mental health law, and juvenile delinquency. He also is the co-editor of a national book series on laws affecting mental health professionals. The series is based on Law and Mental Health Professionals: Arizona that was co-authored by Judge Miller.

   Judge Miller has been active in attorney and judicial ethics. He was a Supreme Court hearing officer on attorney discipline cases, served two terms on the State Bar's ethics committee, and was the chair of the State Bar committee that revised the ethical rules for attorneys. He also served on the committee that revised the Code of Judicial Conduct. He currently serves on the Commission on Judicial Conduct. His interest in professionalism motivated his interest to be a founding member and the first administrator of the Morris K. Udall Inn of Court.

   Judge Miller has been actively involved in various church and community organizations. He also served as a volunteer judge pro tempore, presiding over civil, domestic relations, juvenile and mental health cases.

   Judge Miller is married with two sons. He greatly enjoys bicycling Pima County's bike-friendly roads and he regularly participates in youth related activities.
