   Commissioner Douglas P. Mitchell was born in Tucson, Arizona, on June 5 1947. Commissioner Mitchell attended Occidental College and graduated from the University of Arizona where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1970 with a major in Sociology and minors in Psychology and Political Science. Commissioner Mitchell graduated from the University of Arizona College of Law with a Juris Doctor degree in 1975.

    Admitted to the State Bar of Arizona in October 1975, Commissioner Mitchell was an associate with the law firm, Waterfall, Economidis, Caldwell & Hanshaw from 1975 to 1977, a partner of the law firm Haber & Mitchell from 1977 to 1982, a sole practitioner from 1982 to 1987, an associate with the law firm Bogutz & Gordon, P.C. from 1987 to 1990, and a sole practitioner from 1990 to 1995. Commissioner Mitchell's litigation practice focused on business law, family law, probate and bankruptcy. Prior to his appointment as a Pima County Superior Court Commissioner in July 1995, Commissioner Mitchell served as a Judge Pro Tempore of the Pima County Superior Court for more than 10 years.

    Commissioner Mitchell has served as a Mental Health and Title IV-D Commissioner.

    Commissioner Mitchell is married and has three children and two grandchildren. His hobbies include scuba diving, woodworking, and snow skiing. He is also a certified pilot.
