On September 19th, 2024 Governor Katie Hobbs appointed Honorable Sandra Bensley to the Pima County Superior Court, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Javier Chon-Lopez. Prior to her appointment as a Court Commissioner in March 2024, Judge Bensley was a partner and attorney at Waterfall, Economidis, Caldwell, Hanshaw & Villamana, P.C., where she specialized in Trusts and Estates and Elder Law.
Judge Bensley has also served as an Assistant Public Defender at the Pima County Public Defender’s Office and as an Assistant City Prosecutor at the City of Glendale Prosecutor’s Office. She is the immediate past President of the Pima County Bar Association and has previously served on the State Bar Board of Governors. Additionally, she was the president of the Southern Arizona Chapter of the Arizona Women Lawyers Association and has held a position on its State Board. Currently, she is a member of the Southern Arizona Chapter’s Steering Committee.
In 2019, Judge Bensley was honored as one of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's "40 Under 40." She graduated from Arizona State University with dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and History and earned her Juris Doctor from the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law in 2006.
