Indian Child Welfare Act Court
With support from Casey Family Programs (CFP), a national operating foundation, the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) Court in Pima County Juvenile Court launched in January 2020. An ICWA team was formed between CFP, tribes, state agencies, attorneys, judges, and a law professor to develop ways to make the court work more effectively. The ICWA team works collaboratively with 11 tribes, attorneys, courts, and agencies to ensure adherence to ICWA requirements and improve case processing, hearings, and outcomes, while protecting the best interests of Indian children.
ICWA Court promotes excellence and innovation by using technology and data to manage performance, trainings, and identify areas needing improvement.
The ICWA team's work has informed the public about ICWA Court's role and place in the community. The collaborative process has been paramount in building and promoting the tribal and public's trust and confidence in a court system that is fair, just, and accessible.
